Literature Circles
Students have now been assigned to a Literature Circle or "Book Club" group and book and have been given a month long assignment. This is a very large project and the students need to work on this project every night by reading the assigned chapters, writing down a few notes (characters, setting, events) for each chapter, and completing the written work expectations by Friday each week. Next week, as January 17th is a Pro D Day, readings and written work should be completed by Thursday January 16th.
On the due date, students will meet with their groups and go through their completed work by asking a question, answer questions, talking about vocabulary, and discussing characters.
The final aspect of this project is the creative choice piece. Each week, students will pick one option from the list, below, to demonstrate what they have read in a more creative way. There are a number of choices and I am open to other creative ideas as well.

Social Studies
Before the winter break, the students started a project where they researched a holiday celebrated in another country or celebrated by a different culture. We are now using the pamphlets they have made as a visual for an oral presentation on Friday and Monday. They have been working on their scripts this week. They are expected to share with us
- the country they chose
- 2 - 3 interesting facts about their country
- 2 similarities and differences between the country the chose and Canada
- the flag
- Location facts (continent, nearby countries, nearby oceans, etc)
- Holiday facts
- Name and date of holiday
- visual of what the holiday would look like
- how to say "happy holidays" or similar for that holiday
- what activities or traditions are done to celebrate the holiday
- Types of food eaten
- Clothing worn
The students will be marked on their presentation as follows:

Reading Comprehension
Each week the students will read and answer content and comprehension questions for 5 passages in their Reading Comprehension duotangs. This activity will mostly be completed during school at designated times but may be sent home for completion. Students are reminded to use strategies to make connections, question, and infer from their readings.

Music Concert Tomorrow
Holiday cheer is in the air! The students have been decorating our classroom, we had a successful secret santa gift exchange, and we have been creating some beautiful winter art. Tomorrow there will be more holiday festivities at the school. All parents and family are invited to come to the school tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. for a holiday music concert put on by our music teacher, Mrs. Touzeau.
Hope to see you here tomorrow!
